It’s not without irony that one of the world’s snowiest countries is often overlooked by skiers.
Known for its rugged landscapes, cool urban vibes, and ridiculously friendly residents, Canada doesn’t typically garner the same attention bestowed upon the United States, Japan, or France among skiing enthusiasts, and especially not east of the Rockies.
That’s a big missed opportunity.
Located just ninety minutes outside of Quebec City (read: really close for us New Yorkers), Le Massif De Charlevoix is a stunning ski resort with a great deal of untapped potential. With a total of 52 runs, nearly 8km of luge runs, and over 250 inches of average annual snowfall, the area offers an abundance of mountain activities suitable for everyone, from novice sledders (read: me) to professional snowboarders.
It’s no surprise then, that Club Med, the pioneer of all-inclusive travel experiences, is once again pushing the frontier with its first-ever Canadian resort, coming to Le Massif De Charlevoix in 2020.
In the words of the company’s North American President & CEO, Xavier Mufraggi, “it is often said you will only find a Club Med resort in the most beautiful destinations in the world.” Given Charlevoix’s picturesque, mountain-to-sea beauty, the move is a no-brainer for the travel and tourist powerhouse, and a big win for the rest of us.
Club Med is partnering with Groupe Le Massif on this project. Its Chairman of the Board, Daniel Gaulthier, believes that the coming resort will position its site as one of the world’s “greatest international destinations.” And based upon what we know so far, we’ve got little reason to doubt him.
As the first Club Med mountain resort in Canada, Le Massif de Charlevoix will blend creativity, authenticity, and culture to promise an awe-inspiring vacation destination with a picturesque setting, an outstanding line-up of activities (don’t like skiing? Try sledding, snowboarding, or hiking!), authentic food, and unsurpassed reputation for service.
Here’s what we can expect…
The project represents a nearly $100 million investment to develop a 300-room resort, including a
5-Trident boutique hotel-style area with exclusive amenities and suites. Club Med brings its unique all-inclusive mountain vacation model to the heart of an already renowned ski region with spectacular waterfront views overlooking the Saint Lawrence River. The resort promises to be a haven for family and couple getaways, with spas and nordic hot tubs to boot.
Luxury and convenience go hand and hand, which is why the new resort promises a drama-free experience. Club Med believes that vacationers seek time to disconnect and remove themselves from
the stresses of their always-connected digital lives, and the idea of planning a ski vacation can seem complex to tackle all at once. Images of endless queues and difficulties in securing ski passes, ski instructors, ski gear, meals and options for children can be daunting. In response, the company is offering its guests everything they could possibly need on their vacation (perhaps with the exception of Olympic coaches…but who knows?).
With easy online registrations, pre-prepared ski gear and ski-in/ski-out access, guests can go straight from check-in to hitting the slopes in no time, with only a 90 minute commute from Jean Lesage Airport.
A Global Experience
The world’s flagship ski destinations are seeing a stronger increase in visitors from around the world. For instance, guests from the U.S., Canada, and Brazil are booking more ski vacations in the Alps and across Asia. It’s not hard to imagine why. Each location offers its own unique benefits, from Champagne powder in Japan to a chalet atmosphere in France. Of course, whether you’re hoping to sled down a mountain or stuff your face with poutine in Montreal, Quebec has something for everyone, and Club Med’s newest offering is no different.
The resort will employ staff members from all over the world to break down language barriers and offer concierge-level services, adapting to its clients’ needs and comforts. With tantalizing cuisine that highlights authentic, local flavors, and majestic views of a dynamic landscape, guests are certain to feel that they are experiencing the very best of Canada.
