What’s your favorite book?

I love Hemingway’s For Whom the Bell Tolls, partly because it’s such contrast to A Farewell to Arms – which he wrote beforehand. You can really see the shift in his mindset between time he wrote both. In A Farewell to Arms, Hemingway was still questioning how one should best live. The main character basically defects the war for the woman he loves. But in For Whom the Bell Tolls, the main character’s purpose in life was much clearer. His goal was to blow up a bridge, and if he had to give up his life to get it done, he would. My hope is to be as crystal clear in my mission. If you pursue your mission, and do what you’re supposed to do, everyone will be better off.

How would you like to be remembered?

I believe and recognize that life is too short, and should be something that is thoroughly enjoyed. For me, that enjoyment will come from doing the best that I can, in the fight I consider most meaningful, while best loving those who mean the world to me. At the end of my life, I would like to look back and be able to say: “I did all that I could, I loved the journey, and I don’t regret a thing.”
